Centenary
The Society is recognising its Centenary in 2009
The Society staged its first show in 1909 at Enborne Gate Farm, Newbury. There were three breaks in the 20th Century when no show took place. Between 1914 and 1918 during First World War, between 1928 to 1935 during the farming depression and again during the Second World War 1939 to 1945. Since then the Show has grown to become one of the leading agricultural shows in the country. In 2009 a number of events will take place to celebrate 100 years of the Society.
There is a Committee working on ideas to celebrate 100 years. There have been a number of very good suggestions which are being pursued subject to them being affordable! If anyone has any ideas or suggestions to put forward please contact Becky in the office or Simon Carter on simonc@carterandsonltd.co.uk. Other bodies that have celebrations in 2009 include Dreweatt Neate – 250 years and Berkshire Womens Institute – 90 years.
We thank them for their support at the County Show over many years and look forward to sharing their celebrations at the County Show in September 2009.”
