Show Goes On
The Newbury & District Agricultural Society,
organisers of the Royal County of Berkshire Show, confirm that
the 21st and 22nd September event will go ahead on the two days
as advertised.
The decision was taken following consultation with volunteers
who steward at the major event and the many trade stand holders
who have already confirmed for this year, in the light of the Countryside
Alliance holding their Liberty & Livelihood March in London
on the Sunday of the Show.
Society Chairman, Michael Bowden commented, "Our volunteers
are essential to our Show and we needed to know their thoughts
on what the Society should do."
Richard Burge, Chief Executive of the Countryside Alliance endorsed
the Society's announcement and said, "Your decision to go
ahead is one we warmly support and we will do anything we can to
assist."
There will be an opportunity for visitors to "Show our Support" with
a clear message that rural Liberty & Livelihood extends to
keeping the rural elements at County and other Agricultural Shows.
Mr Bowden continued, "We are all now working together to
ensure that we put on a great event this year. It is especially
significant as we'll have livestock back this year, after last
year's devastating foot & mouth disease. We've also got a packed
entertainment programme including the breathtaking Royal Signals
Motorcycle Display team and the exciting Portsmouth VCC Field Gun
Display."
The Royal County of Berkshire Show, one of the country's top ten
agricultural shows, will take place at Newbury Showground on 21st
and 22nd September 2002.
