Nigel Fleming has been appointed 2003 President of the Newbury & District Agricultural Society. The appointment brings together two of Newbury's oldest Societies as Nigel is Chief Executive of Newbury Building Society, which was formed nearly 150 years ago. Established in 1909 the Newbury & District Agricultural Society organise one of the country's top ten agricultural events, the Royal County of Berkshire Show and the popular Newbury Summer Show.

Nigel's personal link with the Society began when he moved to Newbury in 1979. A regular Show visitor ever since Nigel's commitment is echoed through his firm's sponsorship and one of the main entrances to Newbury Showground proudly bears the Newbury Building Society name.

Nigel is a supporter and participator at numerous local events and is a past Chairman of Newbury Corn Exchange Trust. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a Director of Sovereign Housing Association.

A family man Nigel is married with three daughters and a son. Football and athletics are his favoured spectator sports, with the thrill of participating coming from hot air ballooning and motor racing!

One of Nigel's first major duties will be attending the Newbury Summer Show at Newbury Showground on 28th and 29th June 2003.
