CHAIRMAN`S BLOG

What a wonderful weekend the Show Weekend was despite the weather`s best attempts at spoiling the fun, and didn`t the Showground look a picture, I cannot remember the grass ever looking in better condition for the Show and for this we must thank our new Grounds Contractor Scofell for all their hard work in the weeks leading up to the Show.

It was wonderful being able to stop and speak to so many of you over the weekend and thank you for all the comments, all have been noted and all will be discussed over the coming weeks .

President Malcolm and myself had a truly wonderful magical weekend, it was just sad that it was all over so quickly, highlights for me had to be the magnificent Grand Parade of Cattle, as good as any I can ever remember, my old school St Barts of Newbury providing the choir for the Harvest Festival Service, meeting “David Archer” from “The Archers”, the thrilling spectacle provided by the Devils Horsemen in the Main Arena, the Band of the Brigade of Ghurkhas and the spectacle of the Scurry Championship on Sunday a thrilling climax to a great weekend.

There are lots of photographs on the Show website in Galleries, do have a look, did our photographers snap you on their tours round the Showground?

Plans for next year are already being worked on, if any of you have any ideas or recommendations do please let us know, ring the office on 01635 247111 and ask for Jo.

So on to our next event and a truly Agricultural event it is too, the Annual Ploughing Match, being held on Saturday October 15th again as last year at Compton just a few miles north of the Showground. The Steam ploughing has already booked and hopefully subject to their fitness at least 1 team of Horses will be there as well, but a good entry is guaranteed , so come on over and enjoy another great day, full details on the Website.

I look forward to seeing many of you there, for full details of the Society please go to www.newburyshowground.co.uk, or ring the office 01635 247111.
