The Royal County of Berkshire Show Team would like to give a warm welcome to our 2014 Show Chairman, Rhona Tucker. Rhona has been a long serving member and supporter of the Royal County of Berkshire Show and has demonstrated her creativity and dedication in her running of the Flower Tent; a role which has been since passed on to her daughter Lucy, and now her granddaughter Becky.
Rhona is a recognised local figure due to her constant support and leadersh ..

As my time as Chairman of The Newbury and District Agricultural Society is coming to a close, I have found myself feeling nostalgic.
Reflecting back I can remember joy and laughter, both here in the office and at the events throughout the year. Committee meetings, council meetings, board meetings all with one purpose, to make a Royal County of Berkshire Show that the 400 volunteers and the general public can enjoy and come away from feeling they have had a well wort ..

The Royal County of Berkshire Show Team were proud to be the host of the ASAO Conference 2013 over the 8th, 9th & 10th of November. After a busy period leading up to the Conference, we were all awaiting its arrival with great anticipation; looking forward to meeting new colleagues from this unique industry that we are all a part of.
On Friday morning Delegates began to arrive, some attending the Conference for the first time. Our Conference Ambassadors were on ha ..

For those of you who were not at The Newbury & District Agricultural Society Ploughing Match this past weekend, you missed a corker of a day. There had been a few worries in the lead up because of the squally rain showers driving in from the west, but come the day, it was over cast but warm and dry overhead.
The skilled ploughmen arrived either on their tractors or driving lorries baring the precious vintage tractors and ploughs. Friendly greeting an ..

As someone who has never been to a Ploughing Match before, I thought I would ask the seemingly obvious questions to our Chairman (and host of this year’s Ploughing Match), Ali Brown, to find out what it actually entailed.
According to Ali, the participants are allocated a carefully marked out plot of land depending on the size of their plough. There are nine classes to compete in, all with a 20 minute a competition/race and a 30 minutes judging period. The various classes incl ..

It is now Tuesday and last night was the first night I slept badly. Suddenly so many images, thoughts, and comments from the weekend kept popping into my head. They would not stop; I hope they never go away.
Officially, I started the Show Day having breakfast with my President, Sally Stockings. The laughter started then and continued, nonstop, for the next 48 hours!
As Chairman and President, your day is mapped out to the last minute. You cover the whole Showg ..

Like so many people in Britain we are so conscious of the weather. At last it feels as though the sun might be winning.
The anniversary of the Queen’s coronation has made us think back in time; particularly as we are honouring the Land Army, throughout the year and at the Show weekend. Their stories are fascinating, their memories, of long hours in the fields, working very hard, with very little mechanical equipment, milking by hand, hoeing fields. We only have to reme ..
Newbury Showground - Tuesday, January 29, 2013
An all-woman team has taken over the reins of the 2013 Royal County of Berkshire Show with the promise that they will build on the substantial success of last year’s event - and break new boundaries.
The Newbury and District Agricultural Society has elected Hampstead Norreys farmer Ali Brown as this year’s show chairman, while Wallingford-based pig business director Sally Stockings becomes president. Together, they are keen to carry on the best agricultural traditions ..

After a disappointing harvest, local farmers will be turning their attentions to a hopefully more fruitful time at the Newbury & District Agricultural Society’s Ploughing Match.
The annual event – this year to be held at Lambourn Woodlands in Berkshire on 20 October – promises another great family day out from the organisers of the Royal County of Berkshire Show. But it’s also a chance for ploughmen from Berkshire and the surrounding counties to show ..

Six local schools will be celebrating Harvest with a jam-packed day of activities at the Newbury Showground on 1 October. From apple tastings to a grow-your-own pumpkin challenge, the 150 primary school pupils will enjoy all that’s best about British grown produce.
The children have been nurturing their pumpkins since May and will be eager to discover which is the heaviest. There will also be a particular focus on that quintessential English fruit – the apple – with appl ..
