With less than 50 days to go the tempo is gathering apace at Newbury Showground!

Another top notch show in prospect Mary Hopkins "very impresssed"
There are just seven weeks left to this year’s Royal County of Berkshire Show on 21 and 22 September and organisers are delighted by the surge in bookings on all fronts.
With entries for the various livestock classes substantially up on last year, the event is also enjoying an increased number of trade stand bookings. Both close within a few days now. Meanwhile, the online tic ..

The sun is hot, the sky is blue, the Showground is being titivated and there are now only 8.5 weeks until Show Time. In the office we are all starting to have ‘night thoughts’, waking in the morning thinking something bad happened at the Show - very disconcerting! Despite this, there is an air of calm and efficiency permeating through the building. Map plotting, stand plotting, tent plotting and staging are well in hand.
The Land Girls are readying themselves t ..

It’s the year of the woman at the Royal County of Berkshire Show!
Women play a massive, but often unrecognised, role in farming. Our Chairman Ali Brown and our President Sally Stockings decided to honour the Land Girls at this year’s Show; to enable the women who saved war-torn Britain from hunger to gain the recognition they deserve.
Severe food shortages during World War I as a result of German naval blockades on Britain’s food imports, and ..

Like so many people in Britain we are so conscious of the weather. At last it feels as though the sun might be winning.
The anniversary of the Queen’s coronation has made us think back in time; particularly as we are honouring the Land Army, throughout the year and at the Show weekend. Their stories are fascinating, their memories, of long hours in the fields, working very hard, with very little mechanical equipment, milking by hand, hoeing fields. We only have to reme ..

Today’s scary thought;
Four months to the Show! Ben from our contractors Scofell says all is under control. Natalie says no problems. Susan and Nellie are counting the trade stand and membership money as it rolls in. Laura is amazing, super cool and utterly in control. Rachael is ready for stock entries to come pinging through the web site. I just keep stuffing envelopes, making tea, coffee and cake. A normal May on the Showground.
Care is being taken wit ..

Daylight and temperature are still a problem to most of us. We know it is April, so should be starting to feel more positive and forward thinking, but the year just has not got started. Here in the Show office it is a hive of forward, positive thoughts and delight. Trade stand entries, Craft, Food Fayre, Horticulture Livestock and equine enquiries are pouring in. It is a wonderful feeling for all those who have put time and effort into planning this year’s show.

We do not let a little thing like snow stops us, here at the Show ground and Society.
I am sure you will not have failed to notice that it is Farmhouse Breakfast Week. Farm shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, all, celebrating the best British and local food.
Despite the snow our education officer Jan and helpers taking breakfast to schools all over Berkshire. For Jan, Farmhouse Breakfast Week actually lasts 3 weeks, and approximately 400 children will learn about the importance ..
