Newbury & District Agricultural Society nominated for Educational Award
The Newbury & District Agricultural Society has been nominated for an award in the Bayer LEAF Education Awards.
The Bayer-LEAF Education Awards celebrate the very best of agricultural education initiatives on-farm, in the classroom, or online. Together, Bayer and LEAF Education want to help inspire and mobilise champions of food and farming education, so that future generations grow up knowing more about farming and what it delivers as well as helping nurture a lifelong interest in the natural world and an awareness of their role in protecting it.
The Society has been nominated for the Primary Partnership Award, which acknowledges organisations and farms for their work with Primary Schools, making a lasting difference to young children's understanding of farming and where their food comes from.
Jan Murray, the Society's Education Officer delivers fun, hands-on learning workshops that are focused on food, farming and the countryside. Visiting schools throughout the academic year, Jan delivers these workshops either in the classroom or at the Newbury Showground, enabling children to experience the great outdoors in a safe environment. For further details, visit the Education pages on our website.
Our Education Programme is open to all schools across Berkshire, South Oxfordshire, East Wiltshire and North Hampshire and can be tailored to individual school requirements or you can simply book one of Jan’s seasonal events.
Jan Murray, Education Officer comments "It is a real honour to receive a nomination for this award by one of the schools the Society works with as it is an endorsement that they value what the education programmes offer them.
Patricia Marks, CEO adds "Its wonderful that we have been recognised for the educational work we do. Our core objective is to educate the general public in the need to preserve the countryside and wildlife, and to promote and support the British agricultural, horticultural, forestry and rural crafts industries. And we do this through a number of programmes, one being our very successful Educational Workshops with schools across Berkshire and surrounding counties."
